The red boundary is the shape of the work
envelope for this type of robot.
The Anthropomorphic robot is the nearest
equivalent of the human arm. It can be equipped with a human hand
type of gripper, complete with four fingers and thumb. This illustration,
as above, is a highly reduced version, as the work envelope would
be a very large sphere.
The similarity with the human arm and
hand gives it a substantial versatility and dexterity of manipulation
of payloads. An example is available as the 5-axes robot for armature
soldering (Please ref. PRODUCTS). In this particular implementation,
there is an ingenious combination of endless roll with pneumatic
gripper, able to take up compound angles in space. There is virtually
no function that can be excluded from the Anthropo type of robot’s
capabilities, as much as the human hand.
This being so, it forms just one of the
limbs of the Android having two arms and two legs.
The question may arise in the mind that if it is so versatile,
why are there other types of robots; the answer is simple-we do
not envisage using a universal die sinker for mere drilling operation
where a pillar drill would be more cost-effective!!
