Area
on land, sheet glass, timber, leather, cloth, steel plates/sheets,
is always expensive. Therefore a program that minimizes the area
requirement for a maximum number of items to be output would be
welcome. There are two methods of distribution generally employed,
i.e., Rectangulation and Random shapes.
The AREA SHEAR PROGRAM meets the Rectangulation requirement and
the AREA CUT program meets the random shape requirement, including
self-nesting. In both the instances, the output reports are in the
form of 2D drawings along with associated cutting data. On performing
a live cutting of materials based on the output drawings and data
generated by the AREA SHEAR program, an annual wastage of 22% was
brought down to 0.22% for a sheet metal panel manufacturing company
and a 20% incremental extraction of products from plates and slabs
for a heavy engineering fabricator company by utilizing the AREA
CUT program.
